1.) Happy New Year! I haven't made any resolutions. eating healthier is always a good one... but that never lasts so long.

2.) my camera has decided to not work. sadly. but mom and i are going to drop it off at a repair store today when we go to get Drew and Liz's late Christmas present (two bata fish, and they get to pick them out).

3.) I'm learning Debussy's Claire De Lune on the piano this Christmas break. it's one of the most enchanting songs. have a listen:

it's been a busy past two weeks--the last papers/projects are all finished, and now all that's left is finals! after spending seven hours studying in the library today, i came back in need of ice cream--which i delightedly ate. i'm looking forward to the close of this awesome semester and the start of the holiday celebrations!

On the Incarnation

I just finished reading On the Incarnation, by Athanasius. best book i've read since coming to school.
Athanasius profoundly describes the first coming of Jesus Christ. his words invoke worship.

a quote from the beginning pages:

“You must understand why it is that the Word of the Father, so great and so high, has been manifest in bodily form… He has been manifested in a human body for this reason only, out of the love and goodness of His Father, for the salvation of us men. We will begin, then, with the creation of the world and with God its Maker, for the first fact that you must grasp is this: the renewal of creation has been wrought by the Self-same Word Who made it in the beginning.” (Chapter One)

so gooooooood.
if you have the time this holiday season, I would highly recommend taking an hour or two to read through this (short 60 page) book. it will give you a fresh perspective on the Christmas celebrations!

when it's 5:30 in the morning and sleep has been a no-go for the past hours, why not give the blog an update?! seemed logical to me.
so
theses past months in Spokane have been wonderful--and extremely full.
school this semester has been challenging, and up until last week I felt like I was struggling keep my head above water--Missions Conference and Thanksgiving couldn't have come at a better time! adding to the busyness of school is my job this year, I'm the school's photographer. though it has been a lot of work, it's a blessing to me financially and has served to be a great way for me to get out of my comfort zone. I've met so many new people since taking this opportunity!
one of my favorite parts of this school year has been my house. seriously, it's normal to have Andrew Bird's pandora station playing, someone cooking something delicious, candles alit, and good conversations going all at the same time. yes. I do love where and with whom(s) I live.
I've been reading through Romans--it's outstanding and I've been pairing it with the Gospel Primer (which I highly highly recommend, here's why).
me and Elissa started watching a series called Once Upon a Time, full of beloved childhood fairytale characters and their adventures. and now we're addicted.
sometimes I do P90X with a few housemates. and sometimes i'm inspired to eat healthier. but it's never long-lived, I'm sad to say, but I'm working on it.
I love my family. and can't wait to spend the holidays with them.
and thats the gist of my past few moths.
Now I do believe that sleep may be calling my name-----finalllllllly.

Goodbye Summer

this was a beach trip taken this past August. i thought it would be nice to do a final goodbye to summer post. it's actually starting to feel like fall now--which makes my heart a bit sad, i've always been a SUMMER person--but i am looking forward to the soon-to-be pretty leaves, and the warm cozy sweaters, and for delicious soup (fall has always been soup season for my family). it should be good, here comes fall!

McMath just so happens to be an amazing professor here at moody and maple bars so happen to be a delicious treat [just introduced to me today]. according to dr. McMath, maple bars are the best doughnuts out there [but you can only really find them out here in washington, oh and i guess a doughnut shop in israel makes them too...].
so there we were, a pack of girls and McMath sitting at a Donut Parade table, sipping coffee and enjoying maple bars. us girls grilled McMath with all sorts of questions:
"how many kids do you have?"
"did you grow up here in spokane?"
"tell us about your Israel travels!"
"how do you, personally, study the bible??!"
and when it was time for McMath to get back to his business, we all cried.
no, not really, but we all felt like we could sit and listen to his stories and advise for forever! what a cool man, i love that we have the opportunity to meet with professors here at the spokane campus.
yay for McMath and yummy maple bars!

frothing drinks this grey afternoon. Mrs. Morgan sent her daughter, kathryn (my lovely roommate), a care package this past week (okay,can i just tell you the excitement us college people have when packages are sent our way?! it just brings happiness). Kathryn's package contained a frothier and grommet chi-tea mix.
yum. yummy. yum-yum.
since frothing was new to both kathryn and i, we decided to call the professional.. aka kathryns mom. she walked us through everything, "first you need to warm a bit of water and add your chi-mix to it." did that. then warmed the milk.--then the fun part, FROTHING--and then, finally, kathryn's mom advised us to "sit back on the couch, put your feet up, and enjoy!"
kathryns mom is cool. and frothy chi-tea is pretty great too:)

Twas a very beautiful day to go cliff jumping (besides the fact that there was high fire danger warning...) so we jumped.

fun times. the WORST part was right before jumping-considering how far the top of the rock you were standing on is from the surface of the water... let's just say It feels a whole lot more threatening when you're actually about to jump:D

I love fruit. So, you can imagine my excitement when the girls decided it was fruit picking day!

Just an update: I'm doing really well. The whole student body just got back from our fall retreat, which was absolutely amazing! and really refreshing:) I'm enjoying church hopping-we have to visit 6 different churches for Intro to Ministry-There are so many different types of churches and different styles of worship it's crazy! I love that we can have such a variety of churches/worship yet still be united by the same God!
Ummm, school. It's going pretty well. There's a TON of reading, but the books are sooo good. I would recommend all of them! Still trying to figure out getting a job. I'm hoping to be able to teach piano... just need a few students first... :P heh
The coffee here is amazing! They have all these cute little local shops which I've found are quite pleasant atmospheres to study in. In general life is great! God is so good! Love and miss everyone! :D

hello there blog world. It's been a while so i know a post is overdue.
I thought I would take the time to tell you all about the school situation, since it took me forever (and lot's of changing mindness) to decided where to go. I headed off to Moody Bible Institute this last Tuesday. I'm at the Spokane, WA campus.
I had all my college necessities crammed into 3 suitcases that flew with me. And all my dorm mates are AMAZING!

I was looking at laptop cases the other day ago and just couldn't justify spending 40 bucks on one. But I was hoping to have a case before I headed off to college... in 17 days!
So, my mother suggested that I make one.
Off to JoAnnes I went!
A few hours later a laptop case was produced!
i think the final cost was $6.99 ...much better.

Mariah and I really wanted to go to Ignite Chicago-but the tickets were super expensive. So we changed our minds and decided not to go. It was only like a week later when Mariah got a call with the crazy news that she had won 4 FREE TICKETS TO IGNITE CHICAGO!!!
We screamed.
And then tried to recall where/when we had entered any drawings?? Oh yes, it must have been last fall when we went to a college fair!! I love when God chooses to bless our little lives. He really doesn't have to, but He does anyway<3 love

Leeland (my favorite band at the moment:) was there, and Balrowgirl, Matthew West, Jeremy Camp, and a few others. The music was so great:D

I walked into the house thursday, after a long day of work, to a home decked out with pretty pink and purple balloons! "Happy Birthday's!" were shouted, cake was scarfed (always vanilla cake with chocolate whipped frosting) and presents were opened. I was reminded of what a great family I have:) My actual birthday isn't till the 13th but I'm going to be working a dish crew all next week (which I'm sure I'll post about that later). It's been a busy week so far. I started work at a day care Monday. which has been lovely... and a lot of work.... and long hours, Nat and I leave the house at 7am and then don't get back till 7pm. But it's a fun job, I like working with the kids.

tonight I came home with a hankering for peanut butter cookies so I've been happily baking. And then, between my siblings and I, the decision was unanimous: Swan Princess is the movie feature for this rainy evening.

Working, Warn PB cookies and a classic film. Summer is fantastic:)

My cameras are loaded, the batteries are charged and I'm ready to document the day! My cousin Briana is getting married!!!! My job is to follow her around and take pictures of her day. just not right now... the brides 9:30 hair appointment got moved to 10:30 so I don't have so much to do at the moment... so why not blog?! heh.

Just a second ago Dan, the groom, shouted a warning that he was "ENTERING THE ROOM!!" Briana is hiding in the basement, fully embracing the good ol tradition that you can't see the bride till she's walking down the aisle! lots of excitement in the air:) ...especially since they have saved their first kiss for tonight’s ceremony as well. It's going to be a fun day!

I'm not really sure how on earth I'm going to "recap" this Haiti trip.

There were so many children everywhere, my favorite part was taking a picture of them and then SHOWING them. Their faces would just light up! They were so excited to see themselves. So great:D

Sherwood & Areli, SUCH a sweet couple. They're actually missionaries in Guatemala, they came on this trip to do a medical mission with our team. It was great seeing so many lives touched:)

One of the projects we did; Solar panels for the church.

The School roof was the big project of the trip. This was a difficult one because the wood provided was waaay warped. I think Mr. P said they ended up redesigning the plans because the wood wasn't lining up with anything.

Definitely a God-thing that this roof was able to be put up in 3 short days!!

So that covers some of the highlights. AMAZING amazing trip. So many beautiful memories. Truly unforgettable:D

Haiti Pictures

So... I'm only like half way done sorting through these photos:P
It turns out that there was a whopping 16 gigs of photos after this trip. Only because EVERYONE brought a little camera and so I wasn't the only one taking hundreds of pictures:D
It's feeling a little overwhelming, like it's going to take FOEVER to go thorough all of them... and then edit all of them. But I'm still really having fun looking back at all the fun times:)

Keep watching for photos. Hopefully I'll have a few of them up tomorrow!!!! I said hopefully.... hopefully.

Hey everyone! I'm HOME!! After spending an entire day traveling yesterday, it's easy to say I'm glad to be home! But the trip was soo incredibly amazing, hopefully I'll have some photos up soon. I have like 800 pictures to go through though so it may take a little time:P

The travel adventure yesterday:

Our mode of transportation all week (the Stockelands truck). The roads down there were very far from being smooth, so it was interesting trying to keep from flying off the trailer.

The first airport in Jeremy.

Small 18 passenger plane. Flying from Jememie to port au prince.

This guy grabbed mikes guitar and started singing.

Plane to Florida.

Then we had a 6 hour layover in Fort Lauderdale.

Flying Again!

praise praise praise!! Cause the fights have resumed! And it look's like we're going to head off to Haiti this friday! I'm a bit nervous, but even more excited. Thanks to Jesus! You always work EVERYTHING out perfectly according to your plans:)

Haiti Update

A new Haiti update: The trip is coming up THIS FRIDAY!!! YAY! But there's a problem with the plane flights. Spirit airline hasn't resumed flights into Haiti yet. I guess they like to take their time, cause all the other lines have resumed their flying into Haiti.

So, from what I've heard, everything else has fallen into place for this trip except the plane situation:/ Prayer is very much appreciated!

oh.. and sad news. Mariah's birds have died. They didn't like how cold our house was. At least that's what the pet store guy said ...Sad:(

New Addition

There's been a new addition to the family. Two new little birdy friends:) Mariah picked crazy names for them: Dexter and Xavier, ahaha:) I've been enjoying hearing them beep all day. (their cage hangs from Mariah's celling... right next door to me!) Soooo cute. Welcome little finches!

Happy Valentines Day!! I love the tradition we have, fondu every year and then opening the Valentine bag filled with chocolates and usually a love note from each sibling.

I have exciting news!

You are looking at a newly accepted Moody student!!! AHHHHHH! :P
I wasn't accepted at the Chicago campus, where I applied, but at the Spokane campus waaaaaaaay out in Washington state. We didn't even know the Spokane campus existed until I was accepted there!
Very far far away. But I'm pretty sure that I am going to accept that offer. Hopefully I can go there for a year and then transfer into the Chicago school sophomore year (and hopefully I won't die of homesickness during that year!!)
We'll see, I'm just thankful that I've even been accepted! THANK YOU JESUS!!! :) haha
